It was a pleasant sight upon touching down at the Kuching International Airport. We loved Kuching already.
William was a fantastic host, and showed us where all the good food are. This is the famous Kolo Mee shop, very old school. There was quite a good crowd, and people do not booked seats with tissue paper, they actually sat on the seats. :)
The mythical Kolo Mee as everyone chow down on the delicious noodles.
Kuching's 3-colours ice tea.
The tomato kway teow was really tasty.
Even the cat wanted a taste of the food!
We visited a number of majestic temples and also the Kuching Chinatown.
We also visited the Cultural Village. Luckily, we found another entrance.
The windows for this tribal house looked like they could hide cannons behind.
The stairs going up was made of what looked like a coconut trunk with steps cut into it.
One of the tribal men playing the sape, a string instrument, while the lady boogied away to the tune.
We also visited the Bidayuh long house. We were greeted by a pair of young girls serving Tuak, a traditional rice wine. It would be considered impolite to refuse, so we had to have a shot.
Some of them were camera shy.
The girls all turned away when BCM took the photo. One of them was not fast enough to turn, but was quick to throw the towel over her head! LOL!
My friend bought 2 bottles of the Tuak. The brewer named them the Tropical Rainforest Red Scorpion Wine!
Awkward sleeping position, it'd probably get a neck pain.
Another cat, a curious fellow.
We also went with Malcolm, a funny and friendly outdoor adventure guide, into the forest. He owns an outdoor adventure company, be sure to check out his site for more details if you intend to do some outdoor adventure activities or expedition in Borneo.
We went crossing the real bamboo bridge, the natives had no problem of course.
On our way to our adventure, we encountered a minor flood.
We reached our destination of the day - Fairy Cave.
Our training for the abseiling, it was pretty scary doing it for the first time!
There was no turning back after that!
We made it to the site for the actual abseiling off the cliff.
The view was fantastic from that height.
A nervous smile before going down 60m...
Safely back on the ground.
After that, we all had a go at rock climbing.
And the budget hotel that we stayed in, Singgahsana Lodge, was just great.
Overall, an interesting trip for us to remember. And the great friends we made. Thank you William, Malcolm and their respective families for the wonderful hospitality!
